When you need to label on tapered containers, which labeling equipment do you need to choose to do the job perfectly? This tapered bottle labeling machine selection guide will answer this question for you in detail.
What is a tapered bottle?
Often designed to help increase shelf appeal, tapered bottle is often used in personal care or beauty products where the shape of the bottle improve shelf presence or help deliver a strong brand message to the consumer. Can be paired with all common closure systems such as screw caps, dispensing caps, pumps, and sprayers.
Tapered Container's Label
In addition, a product label that’s not tapered correctly will result in the label appearing crooked or not completely covering the area it was intended to. Curved or tapered labels are specifically designed to align with the unique shape of the product packaging. So when they’re applied, they lay flat and fit perfectly.
Tapered Bottle Labeling Machine Selection
Regrettably, no two bottles are the same, meaning there isn't a "standard" taper or tapered bottle labeling machine. (We need the shape, size and taper of your tapered bottle to recommend the most suitable labeling equipment.)
For this article, we're going to cover the most common type of taper: the cone. Some examples of cone-shaped bottles and containers are plastic cups, yogurt containers, and trash cans.
We usually recommend equipment based on the taper of the bottle.
For containers with a small taper, we recommend a positioning labeler (which may require custom rollers).
The tapered labeler is used in many sectors of activity: cosmetics (perfume, cream, skincare, soap etc.), food processing (sauce, jam, marmalade, honey, fruit juice, mustard, olive oil, vinegar, etc.), chemistry (cleaning and household products, detergents, solvents, motor oil, etc.), paint and varnish (pots, buckets, cans, etc.).
This automatic linear labeling machine integrates perfectly into a complete packaging line.
For bottles with a large taper, VKPAK recommends the use of a single-sided labeling machine, which requires some additional brush or sponge wheel device.
The tapered side labeler is designed to apply labels to a full range of regular flat-walled containers along with specialty tapered side containers typical in the deli foods, pastas, salsa, hummus, and any many other industries requiring tapered round plastic or glass containers.
For bottom labeling of tapered bottles, VKPAK recommends the use of a bottom labeling machine.
For top and bottom labeling of tapered container, VKPAK recommends the use of top and bottom labeling machine.
Top and bottom labeling is among the most widely used types of labeling. It is often used to apply variable data to prepackaged food or preprinted packaging, such as an expiration date, a batch number or a list of ingredients. The process is also frequently used to apply promotional labels or the like. For that reason, top and bottom labeling is also used on fresh and prepackaged cheese, sausage and meats. But they are also used for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and semi-luxury foods or snus labeling.Depending on requirements, only the top or only the bottom may be labeled as the product passes the station. The range of possible primary packaging applications extends from frozen packaging, to cans, to glass and plastic containers. For such consumer products, both speed and precise positioning are important. Top and bottom labeling is also used for secondary packaging like outer cardboard boxes. VKPAK has an economical, performance-appropriate system for each area of application.
For projects with multiple labels on a conical bottle, multiple labeling stations need to be customized.
For projects with low output requirements, semi-automatic rolling labeling machines are recommended (customized molds are needed according to the tapered container).
• Used for labeling straight cylindrical, tapered cylindrical, tapered, square, flat, oval, rectangular and various other non-cylindrical bottles, and containers
• Roll diameter 240mm maximum
• Label orientation- Unwind direction #1 #2 #3 #4 depending on what is needed
• Capable of applying single, front and back, semi-wrap, full wrap and overlapping labels (even to tapered cylindrical bottles) All will require the optional Gap guide except the single label application
• Approximate speed is 10 to 30 containers per minute for single label and 6 to 8 for front and back
• Anodized in Gold and Silver. Light weight, portable and compact design.
Summary
The most commonly used labeling machines for tapered bottles are positioning labeling machines and single-sided labeling machines. Our engineers recommend the most suitable labeling equipment according to the taper of the bottle, the size of the bottle and the location of the label.
